Sky Sports have reported that Brendan Rodgers has agreed a ‘long-term deal’ with Scottish champions Celtic in a move that sees him return to the Glasgow club – amid reports that Leeds were keen to bring him to Elland Road.
Rodgers, 50, has been out of work since receiving his marching orders at Leicester City. Of course, the Foxes have since joined Leeds in being relegated from the Premier League. Rodgers has been linked with other clubs, too.
Phil Hay recently reported that Leeds ‘really wanted’ Rodgers but knew it was always going to be tough to convince the Northern Irishman to climb down into the Championship. Tottenham then raided Celtic for Ange Postecoglou.
The Celtic vacancy has become available and despite the terms in which Rodgers left Celtic for Leicester, it seems a deal is now being done to bring him back to Parkhead. The belief was that Rodgers was always going to reject us.
It is understood that Rodgers has put pen to paper on a long-term deal with Celtic, and that an announcement will be made next week – with the deal currently being finalised. Celtic of course, are in the 23-24 Champions League.

So, it was always going to be an uphill battle to tempt Rodgers to join Leeds. Even without the lure of the team he supported as a boy, persuading Rodgers to drop into the second tier always felt a bit unlikely. That now rings true.
Where next? The front runners remain in the form of Daniel Farke and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan. Scott Parker has an outside chance. But Farke looks likely to be the one the 49ers hang their hat on, for the 23-24 campaign.
