Former Leeds United midfielder Weston McKennie could be set for a second chance at Juventus after Max Allegri’s recent comments on the midfielder.

Speaking to GOAL after Juventus’ 3-1 pre-season win over Real Madrid earlier this week, Allegri spoke of how pleased he was with McKennie’s display.

McKennie was handed the man of the match award in the game back in his native homeland, while also assisting his USA international compatriot Timothy Weah for the opening goal.

The 24-year-old had looked as though he was destined to depart Juventus again this summer, with Borussia Dortmund among those interested.

What’s more, McKennie was not initially included in Juventus’ squad for the tour of the US, but is seemingly forcing his way back into Allegri’s plans.

Speaking after the win, Allegri heaped praise on McKennie for his performance against Madrid and is pleased with the progress he is making.

He said: “McKennie had a good game today and I’m very happy.”

McKennie had looked as though he was in a major crossroads in his career after a disastrous loan spell at Leeds left neither the Whites, nor Juventus wanting him.

He became a lightning rod for supporter criticism at Elland Road but hardly helped himself with his performances either, with only a handful of good performances in his 20 appearances.

However, it appears as though he has now recognised he has to improve if he is going to stay at the top level, and rather surprisingly, that could now happen at Juventus.
