Harry Gray might have signed a new contract at Leeds United, but there is a major tug of war emerging around the youngster’s future – one that will affect his entire career.

Gray, 17, is considered one of the hottest prospects in English football. He has now scored 10 goals this season, netting more for the second string than Leeds have managed Premier League goals so far.

That form has called for Leeds fans to urge Farke to start using Gray. Amid the calls for Gray to start, Farke has reminded supporters of his track record with young players. But Gray continues to be overlooked.

Away from Leeds, there is also more debate regarding Gray’s future, but on an international stage. At the moment, Gray has five caps for England’s U17 side, having played for England’s U16 and U15 teams prior.

Leeds star Gray could have won his first senior cap this week

Like all members of Gray’s family and the four members to have played for Leeds beforehand, they all had a decision to make; Scotland, or England. Eddie, Frank and Andy all won Scottish caps during their career.

But it appears that Harry’s older brother Archie has chosen to play for England. While Archie is yet to win his first cap for England, he has won the European Championships with Lee Carsley’s U21 Young Lions.

As things stand, it looks as if Harry will follow Archie and choose England. Certainly, Archie would have won a Scotland cap by now had he chosen Steve Clarke’s side. But Harry is yet to make a decision.

Indeed, The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports on his Patreon that if he had chosen Scotland, Gray would have been included in Scotland’s senior side during the break for games against Greece and Denmark.

Harry Gray must remain patient with Leeds the primary focus

There is no rush for a decision from Gray. Ultimately, if he wanted to play for Scotland, he would have already said yes. There is likely an allegiance to England, and the star is waiting to see how it will unfold.

As things stand, Gray could leave on loan in January. Four Championship clubs, including Joe Gelhardt’s Hull City, are interested in taking Gray. Perhaps a temporary spell in the second tier will catch the eye.

Leeds have tied Gray down to a contract until the summer of 2028, offering Gray the biggest possible deal they could. Leeds know they will have to improve their standing if they are to meet Gray’s ambition.
