Leicester City ace Luke Thomas has told Sheffield United’s site why he decided to choose the Blades over Leeds United and other interested clubs – after completing a loan to Paul Heckingbottom’s side.
Thomas, 22, was strongly linked with a move to Leeds. TalkSPORT presenter Alex Crook even said he expected Thomas to join Leeds. But the Blades swooped and Thomas is back in the Premier League.
Leeds’ search for a left-back goes on. At least, the interest in Thomas does show that Leeds want to sign a left-sided defender. Whether we get one in before Friday’s deadline is another question entirely.
Junior Firpo remains – but is injured, as is Sam Byram. Stuart Dallas is a long-term absentee. Thomas would have given us a ready-made option, but Leicester were wary about sending him to a rival.

Instead, Thomas has gone to Sheffield United. Ex-Leeds boss Heckingbottom has won the race and Thomas is likely to make his debut against Everton on Saturday. Thomas explained his decision.
“When [Sheffield] United came in a few days ago, it was an easy decision. Coming back to play Premier League football is what I wanted to do. Coming here is a great experience. I can’t wait to get started.
“I had interest elsewhere at the time but it was an easy decision like I say – a no brainer really. I can’t wait to get going. I want to play as many games as possible, especially in the Premier League,” Thomas said.

Left-back Thomas would have been a wonderful addition for Leeds. A player with plenty of quality, in a position that Leeds need some quality. An issue that has continued season after season, on the left.
So, what’s next? Leeds are seemingly focusing their final few hours in the window by adding a midfielder and a no.10. Getting those over the line gives us a chance to sign a left-back – but that is the focus now.
