Lukas Nmecha’s latest Instagram post ignores the harsh reality Leeds United face

He might not have known much about it, but Lukas Nmecha scored his third goal in Leeds United colours on Sunday afternoon and has become Leeds’ top scorer for the season so far.

It was an improved performance from Leeds on Sunday, but the result turned out to be the same. A second loss at Elland Road and a fifth defeat in six games as Aston Villa came from behind to win 2-1.

Nmecha netted in controversial circumstances, as Sean Longstaff’s free-kick was put in the air by Gabi Gudmundsson. Anton Stach outjumped Emi Martinez and the ball bobbled off Nmecha into the net.

Mark Clattenburg agrees that VAR made the right call not to overturn the on-field decision. But a brace from Morgan Rogers saw Leeds fall to defeat again, and Nmecha sent a message to fans on Instagram.

Lukas Nmecha sends message to Leeds United fans after defeat

Leeds players have been quiet on social media and even LUTV did not upload a video of a player after the home loss to Villa. Such was the mood of the Elland Road dressing room, given the manner of defeat.

LeedsUnited.News handed Nmecha a rating of 8/10 on Sunday, one of only two players to go as high as that alongside Joe Rodon. Now, the Germany international has posted on Instagram after the loss.

According to Nmecha, points are only around the corner. He told Leeds fans in his post on Monday: “Tough one to take, but points are coming soon”.

Mixed messages involving Daniel Farke after the Aston Villa loss…

“The longer this run continues for Leeds, you would fear for the manager.”

Jamie Carragher

“For me, replacing the manager, I’m not sure it’s definitely the right thing to do now, given the games we have coming up.”

Aidy White

“Believe me, in terms of pressure, the first day you walk in the door as Leeds United manager, you have pressure.”

Daniel Farke

Clearly, Lukas Nmecha has not seen Leeds United’s fixture list

While Nmecha is clearly trying to inject some positivity at Elland Road, and that’s all well and good, the striker has clearly not realised the seriousness of the situation. Leeds are likely to lose their next three.

The Whites have an incredibly difficult run of games in which they will now go to The Etihad to take on Nmecha’s old side Manchester City, before returning to Elland Road to take on Chelsea and Liverpool.

Liverpool might have lost to Nottingham Forest at Anfield, and Chelsea are somewhat indifferent, but these are three games that Leeds are expected to lose. Certainly, Man City is likely to be a heavy loss.

There is trying to encourage and engage a fanbase, but there is also a sense of realism that Leeds fans appreciate more than most fanbases. In his post, he has ignored the reality of the situation Leeds are in.
