Leeds boss Jesse Marsch says the USA player that has impressed him the most other than Leeds stars Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson on the Men In Blazers podcast – is Valencia’s Yunus Musah, as USA qualify for the last 16.
USA beat Iran on Tuesday night 1-0, thanks to Christian Pulisic’s goal. It was enough to see them finish second in Group B, behind England. They take on The Netherlands on Saturday in the last 16, playing for a quarter-final place.
Adams has come in for enormous praise. Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that his form in Qatar is earning the attention of Serie A giants Inter Milan ahead of the January window. He is joint-second in terms of tackles made at the World Cup.
But asked for the identity of the player that has caught his eye, other than his Leeds stars – he picked Valencia’s Musah. Rated at £34million, the ex-Arsenal star has been excellent in a midfield three with Adams and Weston McKennie.
“Musah. I love that kid. He gets around the pitch, he plays with experience beyond his years. Has flexibility of playing as an 8, playing wide, deeper, athletic. He is playing confidently, I think he’s been outstanding,” Marsch said.

Still only 20, Musah left Arsenal in 2019 and joined Valencia. He has gone on to play 82 times at senior level, for Gennaro Gattuso’s side. He has switched his allegiance to America, having played for England’s youth sides 32 times.
Could he be a Leeds United transfer target? Why not. Marsch is impressed and it could be fresh in his mind when he sits down with Victor Orta to discuss what we will do in January, or next summer. Musah’s Valencia deal ends in 2026.
