Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Chelsea have opened talks with the representatives of Leeds United battler Tyler Adams ahead of a possible move over the next few weeks – with Adams boasting a £20m exit clause.
Adams, 24, is expected to leave Leeds before the end of the summer despite the club being keen to keep the USA skipper at Elland Road. But he showed last season, even with relegation, he is far too good for the Championship.
The 49ers are desperate to keep Adams – who is expected to be sidelined until the end of the month at the earliest, as he continues to overcome his hamstring operation. But realistically, Adams will be leaving Leeds this summer.
Aston Villa, Brighton, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and plenty of other Premier League clubs have shown interest. Now, Chelsea are seemingly in the mix. The Times broke the news earlier this week that Chelsea were interested.
Now, Romano has delivered an update. He says that Chelsea have actually spoken to the representatives of the Leeds midfielder in order to explore costs of a move – and to be kept informed. Moises Caicedo remains a priority.

Chelsea would be a wonderful move for Adams, but only if he can gather assurances that he would start. With the club boasting Enzo Fernandez and other midfielders, and the potential signing of Moises Caicedo – would he start?
Probably not. Adams needs to pick a club where he knows he is going to start regularly, game after game. As we go into the final few weeks of the window, Leeds might end up being his best bet. But Chelsea would be a good move.
