Liam Cooper: Leeds have an ‘unbelievable’ player that needs looking after

Liam Cooper has told LUTV that Leeds talent Crysencio Summerville is an “unbelievable” player that is destined to have a wonderful career but that he also needs looking after – following his Leeds winner against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Summerville, 21, scored a second late winner in as many games at Elland Road on Saturday. With the scoreline reading 3-3, the Dutch wonderkid latched on to a pass from sub Willy Gnonto to lash home his third goal in three games.

It had been a frustrating day for Leeds fans up until that point. Taking the lead early on after Summerville won a penalty – which Rodrigo scored – Bournemouth came back. They were 3-1 up just after the half-time interval.

But Sam Greenwood came off the bench to score his first senior goal, and then created Cooper’s equaliser from a corner. With the game entering the last few moments, Gnonto picked the ball up in his own half and drove forward.

He slipped in Summerville with a perfectly-weighted pass, and the pocket-sized ex-Feyenoord star did the rest. It comes after his first-ever Leeds goal against Fulham, and the Liverpool winner. Cooper gave his verdict on Summerville.

“We see it {his talent] day in, day out. Jesse has just been waiting for the chance to put him in, he’s been unbelievable. He’s got to keep pushing, keep striving. We’ll look after him. He’s going to go on and have an unbelievable career.”

But it is becoming quite apparent that Summerville’s focus can become distracted. He was often accused of having a questionable attitude under Marcelo Bielsa. Often arguing in the 21’s when it came to taking a penalty.

Following his winner against Liverpool, he even asked Jesse Marsch if he could return to the Netherlands. Marsch says he told the winger not to, but images on the player’s Instagram suggest he did. Marsch has spoke about his attitude.

Now, Cooper hints at that same subject again – stating that Leeds need to keep him pulling in the same direction as the squad. Right now, it appears they are. He was excellent, but also composed, in what was a huge moment.
