Jesse Marsch has told Thursday’s press conference – as per Leeds United’s YouTube channel – that Crysencio Summerville requested if he could return home for his birthday over the weekend, to which Marsch said “no”.
Summerville, 21, scored the winner for Leeds on Saturday evening at Anfield. His second goal in two games. A brilliant moment in what was only his third Premier League start of the season. The celebrations were excellent.
Wearing the no.10 shirt, Summerville is expected to start on Saturday afternoon at Elland Road. The Netherlands Under-21 international will be given his fourth start – with Luis Sinisterra’s foot injury worse than expected.
Speaking about Summerville in Thursday’s presser, Marsch said that Summerville had requested to go back to his home country – when asked how the youngster celebrated his winner. Marsch said he told Summerville, “no”.
“He wanted to go home and I said no. We had a Halloween party as well, so we did that with families, all the players and first-team staff. All the guys had good fancy dress, but Pascal Struijk was the best – he was a hippy.”

The right decision, from Marsch. Summerville’s time at Leeds has been perhaps marred by a hint of attitude issues. Under Marcelo Bielsa, he tried to leave with Hamburg interested back in January. But Bielsa told him to stay put.
Marsch alluded to keeping on top of his professionalism and discipline in training, during the press conference. Requesting to go back to his home country, albeit on a day off, at this time – does not give the right impression.
It is one to keep an eye on. Leeds have a real gem on their hands in Summerville and his confidence will be high. But it is important that Leeds and Marsch keep him focused, keep pushing. It seems Marsch will stamp his authority.
