Leeds United returned to winning ways in the Championship with a 3-0 victory over rivals Sheffield Wednesday, the Whites scoring at either end of the game before Ao Tanaka’s injury time effort.

Daniel Farke was without Pascal Struijk and Patrick Bamford on Sunday lunchtime as Leeds came into the game having beaten Harrogate Town in the FA Cup, but failing to hold onto lead in the previous two.

Conceding late against Blackburn, Leeds then let a 3-1 lead dissipate against Hull City. But if there was any possibility of nerves on Sunday, Manor Solomon quickly put an end to those concerns with a goal.

Just three minutes in and after good work from Brenden Aaronson, Solomon latched on to score his fourth goal of the season. Largie Ramazani came off the bench late on to score, in the 87th minute.

A gorgeous left-footed finish before Ramazani was involved in the third, lashing a volley goalwards before Tanaka backheeled the shot towards the other corner to score his second goal of the season.

Jayden Bogle earns praise from Leeds United supporters

Despite earning his seventh yellow card of 2024-25, Bogle was excellent on Sunday. His marauding best going forward, and while often questioned defensively, he stood up to Wednesday’s threat on the left.

Leeds fans took to X to discuss Bogle’s performance, which saw the former Sheffield United right-back take on not only his new club’s rivals, but his old side’s too. Many were impressed with the £5m signing.

Such was the amount Bogle got forward, one fan described him as “pretty much our no.10 nowadays” with the right-back clearly eager to impress against Wednesday given the rivalry between both sides.

Another simply took to X to say that “Bogle has been exceptional so far”. Following a tricky start to life at Elland Road following his £5m summer move, Bogle has really grown into the iconic no.2 shirt.

Another claimed that Sheffield Wednesday fans are “terrified” of Bogle, as he continued to torment The Owls down the right flank. Bogle and Dan James got praise from one supporter, described as “excellent”.

Jayden Bogle’s stats from Leeds win v Sheffield Wednesday

Bogle has some big names to follow in securing the no.2 shirt. Most recently, Luke Ayling but the likes of Gary Kelly, Trevor Cherry, Paul Reaney and plenty of others but his first season has been a decent one.

Who knows, in years to come he could well add his name to that list as he continues to shine in a Leeds shirt and indeed, score goals. But if he is to make a name for himself at Leeds, he must defend better.

Jayden Bogle’s stats for Leeds against Sheff Wed:

Promotion to the Premier League will see Bogle come up against tricker teams, better wingers. The ability to get forward will lessen and that means, more scrutiny will be placed on the right-back’s defending.
