Leeds were open to Elland Road ‘baller’ exiting in June, but Daniel Farke changed that by August

Daniel Farke has taken up the figure of a real leader in his role as manager at Leeds United, and Phil Hay says it was his decision to keep Crysencio Summerville – despite Leeds being open to his possible exit.

Summerville, 21, proved to be the difference on Saturday as Leeds came from two goals down to win 3-2 in what was Farke’s first game back at Norwich. Summerville scored two excellent goals for Leeds.

The young Dutch ace is proving to be a key figure in this Leeds side, as Farke looks to guide the Whites towards an instant return to the Premier League. Farke branded him as a “baller” on Saturday afternoon.

Hay reports that back at the start of the transfer window in June, Leeds were open to selling the wide man. Farke was then appointed at the beginning of July, and by August, he was desperate to keep him.

Summerville’s entourage felt sticking with us was his best move and it is proving to be just that. Palace and Bournemouth were keen. Dutch champions Feyenoord made an enquiry, Burnley tabled an offer.

Leeds were open to Summerville exit but Farke chose to keep him

Getting rid of Summerville would have obviously made sense. Leeds needed to sell one or two in the summer in order to bring cash in, to spend elsewhere. He was not a definite starter during 2022-23.

But cash came in the form of Tyler Adams, who is now sidelined until February – which makes a deal good business given Leeds have got north of £20m for the American. Summerville is shining for Leeds.

With six goals and assists already in the League this season, Summerville is proving that if Leeds are going to do anything this season – he will be central to that. You can expect him to start on Wednesday.
