Manchester City were given a fright by RB Leipzig last night and most notably, Belgian striker Lois Openda who put the Germans 2-0 up in the first 45 – a player Leeds United were linked with in April.
Openda flung himself onto the European radar after scoring an impressive 21 goals for Lens in France last season, his only season at Lens. That form caught the eye of big-spending Leipzig in the summer.
But it comes after Leeds were linked. With the Whites still in the Premier League, harbouring ambitions of staying in the top tier, French site Jeunes Footeux said Leeds were interested in landing the Belgian.
However, in the summer he joined Leipzig for a whopping fee of £37m. That is despite Leipzig boasting Timo Werner, Bejamin Sesko and Youssuf Poulsen as options up top – the latter also linked with Leeds.
It appears to be money well spent by Leipzig. Openda has been superb this season, scoring 13 goals in 20 games in all competitions. That is despite only completing 90 minutes on two occasions this term.

Lois Openda scores brace against Man City after Leeds links
Last night, Openda starred. Against Premier League champions Manchester City, Openda embarrassed Manuel Akanji initially before finishing one on one. Then, he did the same to Ruben Dias, making it 2-0.
City came back to win 3-2 thanks to goals from Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and then Julian Alvarez. But Openda certainly made his presence felt – and perhaps, Leeds ruing relegation after links with Openda.
Even if he cost £37m and that might have proved too much for Leeds in the summer even still in the top tier, Leeds did show interest in the striker prior to going down. Now, he is shining on the biggest stage.
