Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing RB Leipzig striker Yussuf Poulsen this summer in an ambitious move for the Dane – but our hopes of landing Poulsen have been handed a boost, as Leipzig close in on £32.5m Loic Openda.
Poulsen, 29, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Leipzig after starting just four of 28 appearances for Leipzig last season. There is a realistic chance he has played his last game for them, after 10 years and 358 games.
The Mail report that Poulsen, a 70-time Denmark star, is a target for Leeds. Daniel Farke wants to bring in players that he knows and having worked in the Bundesliga for much of his career, Poulsen is a player he is well aware of.
Leipzig already boast Timo Werner, Benjamin Sesko and Andre Silva. Poulsen is fourth-choice at Leipzig, even if he is able to play as a secondary striker, or out wide. But now, he is set to fall further down the Leipzig pecking order.
Leipzig close in on Openda: Leeds hopes of landing Poulsen boosted
That is because Leipzig are closing in on a big-money £32.5m move for Belgian star Openda, after he starred for Lens last term – helping the French side shock all, qualifying for the Champions League, finishing second in Ligue 1.
Foot Mercato actually reported in April that Leeds had looked at Belgium star Openda. But of course, relegation from the Premier League ended any chance of Leeds bringing Openda to the Premier League. Leipzig have got him.
German magazine Kicker, as per GFGN, report that Leipzig have agreed a fee for Openda and a medical will take place later this week. So, with Openda joining, Poulsen drops down the rankings – making an exit more likely.
