Leeds United lost a number of central defenders in the summer and Aurele Amenda was targeted as a possible replacement but now, Amenda is on the move – and will join an out-on-loan Leeds player.
Amenda has caught the eye after starring for Swiss side Young Boys over the last 18 months. Breaking into the side, he has gone on to play 42 games. He face Man City in the Champions League this season.
Back in the summer, it was claimed that Leeds were targeting Amenda. The club needed a centre-back with Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Max Wober all leaving. But eventually, Leeds brought in Joe Rodon.
Choosing to recall Charlie Cresswell and placing faith in both Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk. Amenda remained at Young Boys, continuing to impress in the first half of the campaign. Now, he’s on the move.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has reported on Twitter that Amenda is set to join Frankfurt in the next few days for a fee that could reach £8.6m. It could see him partner Robin Koch in central defence.
Leeds target Aurele Amenda set to join Robin Koch’s Frankfurt
Central defence is hardly an area that Leeds need to improve. But, it might be one that Leeds need to consider come the summer. Rodon is only on loan, Cresswell may want to leave the club in the summer.
Phil Hay does not expect Liam Cooper to get a new deal, with Stoke City an option for the skipper. So, while we do not need a central defender right now – we might need one at the end of the current term.
But it looks as though we are going to miss out on Amenda who will end up joining Koch at Frankfurt – with Koch also expected to complete a permanent move to Frankfurt from Leeds in the coming weeks.
