Leeds want £5m ace, Jonathan Woodgate said can score 10 from midfield in division

Leeds United are reportedly keen on Middlesbrough star Paddy McNair – and Jonathan Woodgate is a big fan having managed him while boss at The Riverside, saying he can score 10 goals from midfield in the Championship.

McNair, 28, has entered the final year of his contract at Middlesbrough. It comes after nearly 200 appearances with Boro, joining the club back in the summer of 2018 from Sunderland. In 193 games, he has had a hand in 32 goals.

That is despite the 49-time Northern Ireland star often playing in the middle of the defence, as well in midfield. He is more than capable of both, and that is why there is plenty of interest in the Boro star. TeamTalk say Leeds are keen.

However, Leeds are not the only ones interested. Premier League clubs Sheffield United, Fulham, Luton, Burnley and Bournemouth all want McNair. In the Championship, Leeds and Leicester want him. Woodgate is a big fan.

While manager of McNair at Boro, he told the Gazette: “He’s got that finishing in him. I want my number eights to score between eight and ten goals a season. If they do that, they’ll have a good season, and Paddy can do that.”

If Leeds can bring in a midfielder in the form of McNair that can score 10 goals a season from the middle of the park – then it gives Daniel Farke’s side a real, crucial source of goals. His versatility also sees him cover in at centre-back.

He would be a wonderful signing but given he has been in the Championship for years, one would expect he would want to chance his arm in the Premier League. He will have to pick wisely, at a side that would allow him to start.
