Leeds want 40-year-old boss, would give 49ers a massive boost in keeping defender

Leeds United are reportedly considering a move to persuade Rob Edwards to swap newly-promoted Luton Town to relinquish a chance in the Premier League for Elland Road – and hiring him would surely see us keep Cody Drameh.

Leeds confirmed on Friday that Sam Allardyce would be leaving the club after his four-game spell. The statement also said that we would be looking to hire a new boss in the coming weeks. A new boss cannot come quick enough.

The likes of Steven Gerrard, Carlos Corberan, Graham Potter and Brendan Rodgers have been linked. But a report from The Sun on Thursday claims that Leeds are also looking at Edwards – as well as Lorient manager Regis Le Bris.

Edwards has of course, just got Luton promoted after a play-off final, penalty-shootout win against Coventry. Part of his side was right-back Drameh, who now returns to Leeds after his exploits – where he has a year left on his deal.

Fabrizio Romano reported recently that Luton are keen to sign Drameh permanently, while Vincent Kompany also wants him at Burnley. But, if Leeds manage to convince Edwards to join – surely, that would see Drameh stay put?

Leeds considering Edwards: Hiring him would see us keep Drameh

Leeds will want to keep Drameh, too. He has starred in the Championship. Joining Cardiff in January 2022, he won the Player of the Season award – in just half a season. Then joining Luton in January 2023, promotion was secured.

Quick, strong, reliable and good going forwards and backwards – it is a mystery why he has not been given a proper go beforehand at Leeds. Now in the Championship, where he was one of last season’s best, Drameh would be ideal.

Luke Ayling’s form in the second half of this season is a sign that while it would be good to keep him, there is the need for improvement at right-back. Hiring Edwards helps us keep Drameh, who he has described as “excellent”.
