Leeds United are reportedly interested in a move to sign Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel – a player that was nicknamed “Manuel” by his teammates at German club Paderborn, because of his similarities to Manuel Neuer.
Nubel, 26, emerged as a Leeds target on Thursday afternoon. BILD reported that Stuttgart and Leeds were actually doing battle for Nubel, and a decision was to be made soon. A player that spent last season on loan at Monaco.
The goalkeeper has spent the last two years on loan at Monaco, clocking up a huge 97 outings – keeping 24 clean sheets with the French club. Now back at Bayern, he is expected to leave. Stuttgart want to sign him on a loan deal.

Leeds want a permanent move. It is an ambitious move for the German, given he has played for a club in European football in France, and is on the books at Bayern. To join a second-tier English side would be very much a surprise.
Back in 2021, the Bundesliga’s website published a profile on Nubel. They compared him to Neuer, even claiming that because of the similarities between him and Neuer – that his old teammates at Paderborn called him “Manuel”.
Leeds interested in Nubel, nicknamed after Neuer by old teammates

Neuer is of course, a German footballing legend. He’s won a whopping 11 Bundesliga titles, two Champions League trophies, 117 Germany caps and – a World Cup. He is currently earning a huge £298,000 a week at Bayern Munich.
Anything like Neuer, would be a wonderful addition. Nubel certainly plays in the same way, very good at playing out from the back and commanding within his penalty area. If Leeds could get Nubel, it would be a wonderful signing.
