Leeds United are among the clubs interested in signing Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney in the summer, with the Scot out of favour under Mikel Arteta – and Gordon Strachan is an admirer, telling the Mail he has a “lunatic mentality”.

Tierney, 25, has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal after Arteta brought in Oleksandr Zinchenko from Man City last summer. The 35-time Scotland man has clocked up 26 games this term, but half of those have been off the bench.

A £25million signing at Arsenal from Celtic, 90Min report that clubs are now beginning to look at a possible move for the left-back. Leeds are one of those, despite the improved form of Junior Firpo since the turn of the year at Leeds.

Tierney is renowned for his ability to get forward, his aggressive style of play and his winning mentality born out of many wins and trophies at Celtic. Speaking about Tierney in 2020, Strachan was full of praise for the Arsenal defender.

“He has that lunatic mentality, and I mean that in a good way,” Strachan said. “Kieran has a first-class approach. He listens and takes in information and, crucially, he listens to what you are telling others so he understand their roles.”

Leeds interested in Arsenal star Tierney, Strachan an admirer of lunatic

Tierney would be a monumental signing. Long seen as the future captain of Arsenal, he can count himself highly unlucky to have been ousted from the starting line-up for the Gunners. He is likely to start tonight for Mikel Arteta.

But Tierney will not want to be considered a back-up left-back, playing in the Europa League and not the Premier League. This season, even Takehiro Tomiyasu has started ahead of him on the left. He needs a move in the summer.

Could Leeds nab him? Well, Leeds do probably need a left-back to replace Firpo despite his improved form of late. Whether Tierney would want to join the Whites remains to be seen, but it would be a stunning addition.
