Leeds United will be desperate to sign Joe Rodon from Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent basis but those hopes have just taken a knock – as Everton set their asking price for Jarrad Branthwaite.
Rodon, 26, has been superb. A key cog in Daniel Farke‘s side, one of the first names on the team sheet. His ability on the ball, and defensive nous, has caught the eye. Dom Matteo has praised Rodon’s speed.
But, his long-term future is in doubt. Team Talk say that Spurs are open to his sale and want £20m if they are to sell him – despite, his contract due to enter the last 12 months come the end of the season.
Spurs are struggling for options at centre-back. Cristian Romero is back after suspension but Micky van de Ven is injury, and Eric Dier seems surplus to requirements. Dier’s contract at Spurs expires in June.
Ange Postecoglou likes his central defenders to have pace and Rodon certainly has that. He might want to keep the Welshman moving forward. That is of course, Spurs do not sign any replacements before.
£75m Everton price tag a blow in Leeds hopes of keeping Rodon
One centre-back linked with Tottenham is Everton’s Branthwaite. The central defender has starred for Sean Dyche’s side this term. Everton are likely to be in need of some cash to ease their financial issues.
So, they might be open to the sale of Branthwaite. But, Team Talk report this week that Everton have slapped a £75m price tag on the defender – surely ending any chance that he ends up at Tottenham.
Daniel Levy has opened the cheque book for Postecoglou but not to that extent, and he is unlikely to do so. If Spurs misses out on Branthwaite, Postecoglou may feel it’s best to turn to a player on the books.
The price tag will surely see Spurs move on from Branthwaite. While he is unlikely to be the only target on Spurs’ radar, it does decrease the chances of Spurs being willing to sell Rodon to Leeds permanently.
