Leeds United vs Southampton injury news with nine doubts before Championship play-off final

Both Leeds United and Southampton face potential injury concerns ahead of the Championship play-off final this weekend.

Daniel Farke will be looking to add a third promotion to his CV at Wembley, having previously guided Norwich City to the Premier League on two occasions.

The Leeds boss will have to do something that none of his predecessors have managed though, and that’s winning the play-offs.

The Whites have a poor record in the mini-tournament that takes place at the end of a season, which won’t offer much comfort for supporters.

Neither will the record against Southampton this season, with the Saints winning twice against Leeds – though Russell Martin has claimed that Southampton’s wins over Leeds won’t matter in the play-off final.

Switching to the match itself, both teams appear set to miss some key players from their squad on the day.

Leeds injury news

Leeds could be missing as many as four players when they take to the Wembley turf on Sunday afternoon.

Fan favourite Stuart Dallas has been missing throughout the season and is set to retire following the play-off final.

Pascal Struijk has been missing with an injury he picked up before the new year, with confirmation he will be out for the campaign.

Striker Patrick Bamford was hopeful of being fit for the play-off campaign, but Farke confirmed that the forward will not return for the final.

Sam Byram is a doubt but could feature after making a return to full training from a minor hip injury problem.

Championship play-off final preview

So the big day is just around the corner and for many, nerves may be starting to kick in.

Leeds will need to hold their nerve to get the desired outcome of promotion back to the Premier League.

While the Whites have traditionally struggled against the Saints, in a one-off match all of that goes out of the window.

It will be down to the backline to keep their cool when under pressure and for the frontline to work their magic when it matters.

The game-changers will likely be those forward options, but it remains to be seen whether the firepower of Leeds or the returning stars of Southampton will come out on top.
