Leeds United trio named in squad to face PNE after Daniel Farke said they were injury doubts

Daniel Farke is going to have to manage his Leeds United squad well as the busy Christmas period fast approaches.

Leeds‘ trip to Preston North End is the last of another three-game week that has seen Farke‘s side come through the first two with wins over Derby County and Middlesbrough.

Farke managed his team well through the first part of the week and made four changes to his starting line-up against Boro, and a similar amount could be in store at Deepdale.

Leeds have one of, if not the strongest squad in the Championship and Farke clearly knows that based on his recent rotation.

However, Farke may not have much choice at PNE as he confirmed in his press conference on Friday that a number of ‘late decisions’ will need making on his Leeds side.

Farke makes decision on Jayden Bogle, Max Wober and Sam Byram

Farke’s examples of those he would make late calls are all at full-back, which is less than ideal considering Junior Firpo is already out until after the festive period.

Jayden Bogle missed Leeds’ win over Boro with some muscle soreness and how he came through their final session on Friday will decide on if he is fit to play.

Sam Byram and Max Wober were Bogle and Firpo’s respective replacements on Tuesday but they also came out of that game with a couple of issues.

Wober has missed a lot of the season through injury and it is only really the last two matches where he been able to play regularly, while Byram returned after two weeks on the sidelines.

However, according to Leeds Live, Farke is set to have all three to choose from this afternoon, with the report suggesting they are fit enough to be in the squad.

Isaac Schmidt should start for Leeds

Given the busy period coming up it would be a tad risky from Farke to chuck two of those three players into the line-up if they are not 100 per cent fit.

Not only could it impact their performance, but it will also only increase the chances of them picking up another potential injury.

With that in mind, Farke should consider bringing Isaac Schmidt in for his full Leeds debut, as ultimately it is matches like these why he was signed.

Schmidt has looked tidy whenever he has been used from the bench and certainly looks like someone who could do a job from the start, in order to protect other players in the squad.
