Leeds United told player signed by Daniel Farke ‘doesn’t contribute loads’, and it isn’t that great ‘on the eye’

Leeds United’s attack have been unusually clinical for much of the Championship campaign under Daniel Farke this season, but have still failed to score in four of their 15 league games.

Joel Piroe has six goals, Brenden Aaronson has four, Largie Ramazani and Pascal Striuijk have both got three and many have scored twice, like Dan James, Mateo Joseph, Jayden Bogle and Wilfried Gnonto.

But there have been games already this season, where Leeds dominated without ever feeling as if they would make a breakthrough. Millwall was one of those nights, as The Lions stopped Leeds at The Den.

Piroe is Daniel Farke’s main man at the moment, with the Dutchman seeming to be much more efficient in front of goal than Joseph. Farke has even said that Piroe is the best finisher in the Championship.

Sam Parkin has not been very impressed with Joel Piroe

But there are of course, times where Piroe goes missing in matches. It is difficult to remember a moment where Piroe actually made a telling contribution at Millwall, and he was benched against QPR last time.

Speaking to the Championship Check-In Show, former Football League striker and Swindon Town icon Sam Parkin says Piroe doesn’t offer much to Leeds and that Joseph is more of an all-round package.

“Piroe, obviously, we know he is a brilliant 18-yard box player, but he is not that easy on the eye, is he? He doesn’t contribute loads; I think Joseph is a little bit more all-action,” Parkin summarised, on Piroe.

Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph’s Championship stats compared

It is a difficult one. There is no doubting that Joseph is willing to battle the centre-backs more and look to hold it up, and play others in. Dan James said his assist against Sheffield Wednesday was “brilliant”.

Piroe is much more clinical in the box but he needs others to create that chance for him while Joseph is capable of doing it by himself, magic from nothing, but perhaps doesn’t have that clinical edge like Piroe.

The chances are that Farke is going to chop and change throughout the season between Joseph and Piroe because one thing is for certain, the German will not change his formation unless forced to do so.
