Leeds United reportedly ask for £18m fee for player, but that would anger fans more

Leeds United have reportedly told AC Milan and Fiorentina that they must pay a fee of £18m to sign Willy Gnonto, with both clubs said to be looking to pay a smaller fee. But, if Leeds sell him for £18m, fans will only be more angry.

Gnonto, 19, is a fan favourite at Leeds after a couple of moments of brilliance since his move to Elland Road from FC Zurich last summer, on deadline day. He has had a hand in eight goals for Leeds in 2022-23, but now he could go.

Relegation has meant that a whole handful of Leeds players will need to be sold in order to bring in some cash to soften the blow of no Premier League TV money. Leeds do have a 55% parachute payment coming their way.

But they will lose money unless they sell a number of players. The likes of Illan Meslier, Robin Koch, Tyler Adams, Jack Harrison, Luis Sinisterra and more will go. Gnonto is another. CM say Fiorentina and Milan want the Italy star.

Leeds fans will be angry if Gnonto is sold for just £18m, amid reports

The report claims that both have enquired and have been told they need to spend £18m to get him. Now, if Leeds do cash in on Gnonto for a fee of £18m, then Leeds fans will be fuming – and rightly so. He is a genuine wonderkid.

A player that has 10 caps for his country and not just any country, but Italy. He has already shown he is a Premier League player. Easily, Leeds should be requesting a fee of £25m for Gnonto, if not more, even after relegation.

If in the Premier League, Gnonto would be going for £40m. If not more. So, a fee of £25m in the Championship is more than fair. If Leeds let Gnonto go for anything less than that – like the £18m reported – fans will not be happy.
