Whether it’s promotion to the Premier League or another season in the Championship, this summer promises to be another whirlwind of change for Leeds United.
Daniel Farke will know that if Leeds fail to get promoted automatically, the sack will loom. This squad is far too good for another season in the Championship and players will follow Farke out of the exit door.
The likes of Wilfried Gnonto, Pascal Struijk, Illan Meslier, Ao Tanaka and plenty more are likely to garner interest in the summer if Leeds don’t go up. For most players, their future hinges on promotion this term.
But interestingly, it might be the other way round for Sam Byram. The 31-year-old is one of five players that will leave Leeds at the end of the season as things stand, with his contract due to expire this summer.

Sam Byram has no idea if he will be at Leeds United next season
The Thorp Arch academy product only rejoined Leeds last summer after initially requesting if he could train with boss Farke’s side, given it was his boyhood club and that Farke was his manager at Norwich.
But he signed a one-year deal last summer and his performances earned the same contract last summer, to remain at Leeds until at least June 2025. He was asked by BBC Radio Leeds where his future lies.
“I’d love to stay here but it’s not always in control of the player. My aim is to help Leeds get promoted. Whatever comes after that, will come. I’m just focusing on staying fit, and helping Leeds get promoted.”
Sam Byram is one of five players that will leave Leeds this summer
Byram is out of contract in June but has a different stance to perhaps, most of his teammates. If Leeds don’t go up, Byram will still want to stay put as he states in his interview with BBC reporter Adam Pope.
| Name | Contract expiry | Leeds appearances (starts) | FotMob rating |
| Sam Byram | June 2025 | 21 (11) | 7.18 |
| Junior Firpo | June 2025 | 15 (15) | 7.40 |
| Josuha Guilavogui | June 2025 | 9 (0) | 7.13 |
| Manor Solomon | Loan ends in June | 19 (10) | 7.14 |
| Joe Rothwell | Loan ends in June | 25 (17) | 7.10 |
If Leeds do go up, will Byram be kept at Elland Road? LeedsUnited.News believes he thinks so, given he is the epitome of what it is to be a Leeds player. Tough, hard-working but also boasting technical ability.
Stuart Dallas described Byram as “Mr. Reliable” recently, and he is just that. Able to cover numerous roles, Byram has got to be kept at Leeds given he is happy to play back-up and, helps the homegrown quota.
