Leeds United player says he is ‘underrated’ and is doing things the Elland Road support don’t always see

Daniel Farke has got Leeds United in the perfect position to go on and secure automatic promotion to the Premier League at this stage in the season. Leeds feel primed and ready to explode.

The feeling of league leaders Sunderland is that while they have burst out of the blocks at top speed, it is going to be difficult for Regis Le Bris’ side to maintain such pace with their lack of strength in depth.

Sheffield United and Burnley look as if they will provide serious competition, with managers in place that have won promotion. If Leeds are to get the job done, they will rely on players like Brenden Aaronson.

Aaronson has been crucial for Leeds this season, starting and finishing more games than he has not. The USA star has four goals and an assist so far, though Aaronson is targeting 30 goals and assists this term.

Leeds United star Brenden Aaronson thinks he is underrated

The 24-year-old has returned to Leeds under a bit of a cloud after his loan at Union Berlin last season. One of eight players to use Victor Orta’s loan relegation clause, Aaronson moved to Germany and failed.

It has been a difficult couple of years for Aaronson, ever since he became Jesse Marsch’s first signing at Leeds. But his confidence is growing this season and he told GOAL that actually, he feels “underrated”.

“My technical ability, I don’t think I get a ton of credit for it. But whenever I’m playing consistent minutes, I always get going with assists, and the part of my game, dribbling. That type of thing, kind of underrated.

“Even last game, I played, a ball through and we scored off of it, but it didn’t count, of course. All of those little balls, like the pass before the pass, you don’t always see those things,” Aaronson said.

Aaronson is enjoying his best season since joining Leeds United

Aaronson might have struggled at Leeds in his first season and then in Germany but this time around, he has already overtaken his first two seasons at Elland Road after just 16 games for Leeds in league and cup.

But there are question marks. Simon Grayson recently questioned his end product and while he has got better numbers already than the previous two seasons, at this level, it should already be a lot higher.

Whether Aaronson can add that to his game remains to be seen. But his goal against Plymouth was one of a returning predatory instinct, timing his run into the box and finishing clinically in front of goal.

Perhaps, with more games, it will come.
