In the summer, Leeds United sanctioned the permanent sales of eight players and allowed five more to leave Elland Road on loan and one of those players has just matched Joel Piroe’s record.
Despite only starting five of Leeds‘ 12 Championship matches this season, Dutch ace Piroe now has four goals and sits top of the goalscoring rankings for Leeds under Daniel Farke after a quarter of the matches.
Others like Brenden Aaronson and Largie Ramazani have three apiece, while a whole plethora of players currently sit on two goals like Wilfried Gnonto, Pascal Struijk and Mateo Joseph during the 2024-25 term.
Aaronson remains the club’s only natural no.10 after the Whites failed to sign another to rival the USA star behind the striker. One player that could have competed with Aaronson, has been sent on loan.
Leeds loanee Sam Greenwood nets fourth goal of the season
Greenwood was one of five senior players sent on loan in the summer. Rasmus Kristensen, Darko Gyabi, Sonny Perkins and Jack Harrison have also been loaned out, with Harrison struggling to shine at Everton.
On Saturday, Greenwood’s Preston looked as though they were going to ease past Gyabi’s Plymouth. Paul Heckingbottom’s side were leading 3-0, after Greenwood opened the scoring – but Plymouth came back.
A 3-3 draw, in which Greenwood netted his fourth of the season and matching Piroe’s four. But, the Lancashire Post had some criticism for the £3m Leeds man despite scoring his second in two games.
Rating him at 7/10, the LEP said: “Scored again and was a nuisance for Plymouth’s defenders. Needed to show more composure in certain attacking moments. North End had so many chances to kill the game.”
Does Sam Greenwood have any kind of future at Leeds?
It is believed that Preston have a permanent clause in the loan to possibly sign Greenwood at the end of the season. Given he already has four goals for Heckingbottom’s side, there is every chance of a transfer.

Even though Leeds are lacking in the no.10 role, Greenwood has little future at Elland Road. Manager Farke was willing to let Greenwood go despite that lack of cover and that suggests he has no future.
The chances are, if Preston can afford to sign him permanently at the end of the season, they will. But if they don’t, Greenwood’s form is only going to attract interest from other possible Championship suitors.
