Leeds United in talks with ‘fantastic’ player over new contract, don’t want to sell him

Leeds United are confident of agreeing a new long-term contract with Archie Gray despite interest from Premier League sides including Liverpool.

That is according to Team Talk, who report that talks are already underway between Leeds and Gray over a ‘bumper new deal’, who is said to be happy to continue his career at Elland Road.

Gray only signed his first professional contract back in March, but due to his age, was not able to commit to a deal longer than three years, and so as such, it only runs until 2025.

With that in mind, Leeds are therefore determined to ensure a new long-term deal is agreed by the time he turns 18 in March, in order to stave off interest from elsewhere.

As per the Daily Mail, Liverpool are among the sides reportedly considering an offer next summer, while 90min.com report that Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have all also scouted him.

Leeds confident of agreeing new Gray deal

Gray is enjoying a breakthrough campaign at Leeds this year having appeared in all but one of their 16 Championship fixtures so far.

He has set the example for other Leeds youngsters in the academy looking to force their way into the first team, and keeping him would be huge with interest from top clubs already mounting.

Former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford claimed on Sky Sports that Gray has the potential to go to the ‘very top’, hailing his performances this season as ‘fantastic’.

But that has been said about so many players in the past who have then gone onto make their big move too soon, before then ultimately losing their way and failing to live up to their potential.

With that in mind, it is good to hear that Gray is keen to stay at Elland Road to continue his progression and so hopefully it won’t be too long before an agreement is reached.
