West Ham United defender Ben Johnson has emerged as a target for Leeds United this month with the full-back’s contract due to expire in June – and now both Leeds and Millwall have opened talks.
Johnson, 23, could be available this month after managing just 10 outings in all competitions. Only three in the Premier League, though he has started and come on as a sub in West Ham’s last two matches.
Our interest surfaced earlier in the window, as another name linked with filling the void at full-back. It comes after links with the likes of Connor Roberts, Neco Williams, Ben Davies and plenty other players.
It has since become known that West Ham have tried to extend Johnson’s contract, which ends in the summer – but Johnson has rejected two offers. His lack of game time is clearly a concern at this stage.
West Ham drew with Sheffield United last time out as they endure a sticky bit of form and Johnson that came on in midfield – earning praise from manager David Moyes, as he featured in an unnatural position.

But that has not stopped Leeds’ interest in signing the England U21 man. Football Transfers report that we have made an approach to West Ham for him but we’re not alone. Millwall have also made a move.
It is now up to West Ham as to whether they accept a move. It is unclear if Leeds, or Millwall’s approach is a permanent deal – or a loan deal with a fee. A player that Stuart Pearce has described as “wonderful”.
In what is a tricky week for Leeds off the pitch in terms of trying to get new signings in at Elland Road, the club are also busy on the pitch. Leeds host Daniel Farke’s old side norwich on Wednesday night.
