Leeds United fans furious after ‘out of touch’ announcement at Elland Road

Leeds United ended up signing 10 players in the summer transfer window, with the 49ers backing Daniel Farke by spending over £100 million in the process.

However, for many, it simply was not enough from Leeds United — especially after Leeds were tipped to be one of the busiest sides in the market by many.

The gap between the Championship and Premier League is such that it requires numerous additions all over the pitch. In the end, Leeds fans were just frustrated after deadline day, and following a positive start to the summer.

Including all add-ons, Leeds spent £108.5 million in the market. Even if it became clearer that Leeds were restricted financially via PSR, many have not forgiven the 49ers for not granting Farke with further reinforcements.

Leeds backlash on social media following transfer window disaster

Leeds’ frugal 49ers spending has been laid bare in recent days, with many still seething at the back-end of the window. The Whites made their first seven signings by July 26th.

After Lucas Perri, no one signed for 20 days at Elland Road. Following Dominic Calvert-Lewin came two swift additions in a 10-day span, with Noah Okafor and James Justin the final signings of the window by August 25th.

Now, during an international break, you may think it has given fans time to reflect and cool off from the window. However, after a social media post promoting Socios Fan Tokens has induced backlash.

@Flacky256 replied on Twitter/X, stating: “You’re so hilariously out of touch.”

Another fan added: “You have got your priorities so so wrong this season. Disappointing is a huge understatement.”

A further Leeds fan response read: “Yeah that’ll get the fans back on side!”

Fans aren’t impressed at the club’s social media efforts so far following the closure of the window, with very little explanation directly out of the club on their various platforms.

Paraag Marathe’s late-window promise to Leeds fans

Paraag Marathe’s comments were that Leeds would spend every penny available, with that statement coming following the days when promotion was sealed.

Speaking to Sky Sports before facing Everton, he then said the following: “History shows that there’s always a lot of activity in the last few weeks of the window; certainly, in the last few days of the window.

“We’ll exercise every day that we can. We’re still going to make the best decisions for us and success is not final; it’s a journey.

“And there’s going to be bumps on the road. Obviously, it’s the courage to continue that matters. So that’s why we’re going to keep going and doing everything that we can to prove that this club belongs.

“I’ve been quoted as saying we’ve been at this for a little while, thinking about what we need to do in preparing for the Prem. Really, I have to give my hats off to Daniel, to Adam Underwood, to Robbie Evans — they’ve done a really nice job of getting together.

“And being on the same page about the profile that we’re looking for — whether it be size, whether it be experience, whether it be whatever else. Leadership and things like that.

“Things which we think matters. And, for us, that’s the steps we are going to take. And we are going to keep looking for that profile to keep strengthening us.”

It puts into perspective how badly the last few days of the window reflect, with false promises looking like being broken in the eyes of many of the supporters.
