Leeds United fans are begging for 49ers to sign £15m Lyon forward after relegation from Ligue 1

Leeds United are still in the hunt for forwards after the capture of Lukas Nmecha, with a striker and winger still needed.

The versatile German can operate in both of those roles for Leeds United next season, but Manor Solomon’s departure from his loan spell means a wide player is still needed.

On top of that, the Whites require a Premier League proven number-nine as well. They are still likely to be one of the busiest teams in the transfer market in the top flight.

With the reveal that Lyon have been relegated to Ligue 2, a number of Leeds fans have urged the 49ers and the rest of the club’s hierarchy to look at moving for their best players as well.

Leeds should sign Georges Mikautadze from Lyon

One player in particular caused Leeds fans to turn to social media to ask the club to sign him in Lyon’s unfortunate position and bolster the forward line for Daniel Farke.

A response from a Leeds supporter read: “Go sign Georges mikautadze from Lyon Leeds #lufc”

Another added: “Georges Mikautadze please and thanks @LUFC”

A further response read: “@LUFC sign Georges Mikautadze please and thank you can probably snag a good deal with Lyon being relegated!”

The 24-year-old has only played for the Ligue 1 giants for one season but was signed for a fee of around £15 million (AP news) last summer and could be available for a cut-price deal from Lyon.

Lyon left-back Nicolas Tagliafico is loved by Marcelo Bielsa and another player Leeds could and perhaps should be eyeing, too. It’s a dire situation for the French giants but the vultures will be circling.

How would Georges Mikautadze fit in at Leeds?

In terms of his suitability, Mikautadze would have to play as a wide player or just behind a focal point striker for Leeds, with the Whites needing the latter to spearhead the attack.

The Georgian international has plenty of flair and versatility across the front line, but he is only 5’9″ and Leeds have to sign someone taller and more physical than that to lead the line.

That said, his output is excellent and Leeds need finishers and goals all over the pitch next year. He would be a useful addition in that sense.

Leeds could take advantage of a difficult situation for Lyon by getting themselves a Mikautadze bargain, much like Man City did with Rayan Cherki.
