Leeds United were in the market for a left-back in the summer but failed to get one done, other than in the form of Sam Byram – and Luke Thomas was a player that was targeted by boss Daniel Farke.
The 22-year-old was allowed to leave Leicester despite clocking up 24 senior appearances for the Foxes in the season previous, which ended in relegation. He eventually chose to join Sheffield United on loan.
But not after Leeds tried. Indeed, we held talks over a move to bring the left-back to Elland Road with Farke identifying the left side of defence as an area that needed strengthening. Byram has been superb.
However, he has picked up another injury – coming off after 20 minutes against Birmingham. Junior Firpo replaced him, and he laid on two assists in the 3-0 win over Wayne Rooney’s side on Monday.
Farke has admitted he needs a left-back this month and now, Thomas could be available again. The Telegraph say his loan could be cancelled, despite starting 11 of a possible 17 Premier League games.

He played 90 minutes in the Blades’ last outing, but it was the first in six games since Chris Wilder has returned as boss. It could be that Wilder lets him go to bring in another player on loan in January.
Thomas said after signing for Sheffield United that the reason he chose the Blades, was because they were in the Premier League. But even he may admit he needs to join a Championship side, in January.
With Leeds interested in the summer and still yet to fill the void on the left and Thomas now potentially available – it could happen. But, would Leicester be willing to strengthen a direct Championship rival?
