Leeds told they have an ‘unplayable’ star in Dan James, after Tuesday display for Wales

Welsh media outlet Wales Online have heaped praise on Leeds United ace Dan James after the out-on-loan speed machine was “unplayable” in his country’s 1-0 win over Latvia on Tuesday – laying on the assist for Wales’ goal.

James, 25, won his 43rd cap for Wales on Tuesday, in what was a decent international break for Rob Page’s side. Even without the now-retired Gareth Bale, Wales picked up four points from games against Croatia, and Latvia.

A late Nathan Broadhead goal rescued a point against Croatia last week and then on Tuesday, Wales were expected to beat Latvia at home. They did just that, even if they would have liked to score one or two more goals in Cardiff.

Ultimately, the difference was provided by James – who continues to struggle for game time on loan at Fulham. His inch-perfect cross was headed into the back of the net by Bournemouth target man Kieffer Moore, to win 1-0.

Wales Online were blown away by James’ display. Coming into the game “frustrated” and “disappointed” over his lack of minutes at Fulham – according to Page – James tormented Latvia. He was given 8/10, Wales’ “star man”.

“Far more alert and dangerous than against Croatia. In this mood he’s almost unplayable. His pace caused panic in the backline. His cross for Moore was spot on. Often criticised for poor delivery, so credit where it’s due. Subbed.”

Welsh media heap praise on unplayable Leeds ace Dan James

Indeed, James was superb. Leeds scouts will have been looking on, mightily impressed with the club’s £25m man. But it will take more than just one solid performance to have any kind of future at Elland Road come the summer.

James left on loan to Fulham in order to get game time ahead of the World Cup in Qatar. But he has ended up in a worse position, with the likes of Willian, Bobby Decordova-Reid and Manor Solomon shining out wide for Fulham.

Less than 700 minutes in total so far for the Cottagers this season, just five starts in the Premier League. James has a contract at Leeds until the summer of 2026 and it might be that he returns in the summer – or, he is sold by Leeds.
