Leeds United are keen on Rotherham United goalkeeper Viktor Johansson after a wonderful 2022-23 term, winning Rotherham’s Player of the Season award – and he continued his form against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.
Johansson, 24, kept a stunning 13 clean sheets in his 44 games for Rotherham last season – incredibly impressive given Rotherham finished in a lowly 19th place. FLW say Leeds have internally discussed a move for Johansson.
He still has two years left on his contract at the New York Stadium, but a move to Leeds would surely appeal for a player that would not have to relocate – but improve his Sweden chances. He earned a Sweden call-up last season.
On Wednesday night, he was the only Rotherham player to play the entire 90 minutes against Michael Carrick’s side. Goals from Samuel Silvera and Alex Gilbert saw Boro run out 2-0 winners. But Johansson earned big praise.
The Rotherham Advertiser said Johansson’s form last season made him the best goalkeeper in the Championship – and that form was on show again. They said he was Man of the Match, keeping the scoreline down to just 2-0.
“Johansson’s exploits in the 2022/23 campaign made him arguably the Championship’s best goalkeeper and he was at it again to keep the score down. Work to do for Rotherham. Another man-of-the-match award for their keeper.”

With Karl Darlow looking set for Bournemouth, choosing the Cherries over a drop in division to Elland Road – and Alexander Nubel still hell-bent on a move to Stuttgart, Leeds need to look elsewhere. Bayern want to sell Nubel.
But Stuttgart only want a loan and Nubel wants to stay in Germany. So, it looks as if Leeds need to go again and find another target. Johansson would still be a wonderful signing. He would be keen on a move. Leeds need to sign him.
