Football League World claim Leeds United are keeping tabs on Rotherham United and Sweden goalkeeper Viktor Johansson with the future of Illan Meslier and Joel Robles up in the air. Johansson has impressed at Rotherham.
Meslier remains one of the likeliest members of the squad to depart this summer with clubs said to be looking at the Frenchman. Robles’ deal has expired. Leeds said they will not be renewing his deal – but he will stay for pre-season.
Robles could of course, stay put. But a return to Spain, or an English club may move. Nevertheless, Leeds will need a goalkeeper and possibly two this summer. Johansson is the latest name to be linked with Leeds this summer.
The 24-year-old has impressed at Rotherham, having joined the club from Leicester in 2020 – where he failed to make a single senior outing. Rotherham took a risk on the Swede, who had played 41 times for Leicester’s U21’s.
He has since played 98 times in his three seasons, the last of which was easily his best. His second season in the Championship, he conceded 56 in 43 games – keeping 13 clean sheets – for a side likely to be in the bottom third.

Johansson’s form has not gone unrecognised. He was called up by Sweden for the senior national team for the first time. At Rotherham’s end-of-season awards, he was named the Players’ Player of the Season for the 22-23 term.
So, Johansson is clearly an expert at this level and given he is still only 24, there is plenty of potential for the Swede to go on and become a Premier League goalkeeper. Maybe, his best chance would be doing that at Elland Road.
