Leeds talent says teammates have told him he can become one of the best in the world

Crysencio Summerville has told Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant that his Leeds United teammates have told him he can be one of the best players in the world – if he applies himself better in training, and gives his best every day.

Summerville, 21, has enjoyed a wonderful season at Leeds – breaking into the team on a more-regular basis this term. Indeed, 23 of his 32 senior Leeds outings have come this time around, having a hand in six League games.

The Netherlands talent has scored in the most-recent international break, too. With Willy Gnonto missing ahead of Saturday’s trip to Arsenal, Summerville is likely to start. Luis Sinisterra is fit, but he is hardly in the “best condition”.

There have been question marks over the talent’s attitude at this early stage in his career. Fall-outs at Feyenoord and in his home country, arguing over taking penalties in the second string – and requesting to go home for his 21st.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant, Summerville has explained that his Leeds teammates have been on to him. They have told him that he can be one of the world’s best but only, if he knuckles down behind the scenes.

“Cry, you have a lot of talent, you can be among the best players in the world. But when you come through the gate of the training complex you have to think: today I’m going to train even harder than yesterday’,” Summerville said.

“They set a good example themselves. I have seen English, Spanish, Brazilian and German international players go berserk. Now hard work is easier for me,” Summerville added, when discussing his work rate with de Volkskrant.

Does Summerville have the potential? There is no doubt he can do it in the Premier League. He has the goals, the creativity and a little change to his attitude and more work rate is only going to set him in good stead and improve.

But, does Summerville have the talent to really establish himself in England’s top tier? Leeds will be desperate to avoid the drop to the Championship. If Summerville is to reach his lofty ambitions, Premier League football is key.
