The Daily Express claim that Leeds United still want to sign Charlie Taylor from Burnley, bringing him back to Elland Road six years after he left the club – but there is a problem. Burnley will not sell him, until a replacement is signed.
Taylor, 29, joined Burnley from Leeds in 2017 after breaking in at Elland Road and playing 104 times for us. He has since been a regular for the Clarets in the Premier League, and playing a decent role in their promotion last season.
But after 190 games for Burnley, he has entered the final 12 months of his £27k-a-week contract. Phil Hay reported on The Athletic’s website at the start of July that Leeds wanted to bring Taylor back. Now, an update on the move.
The report states that Leeds remain interested in the left-back. But, there is an issue and that is that Taylor will not be allowed to leave the club in the coming weeks – unless Burnley do not bring in a replacement for the left-footer.

Taylor would be a wonderful signing. Leeds have not replaced him since he left the club six years ago. Plenty have tried – the likes of Barry Douglas, Gjanni Alioski, Junior Firpo and plenty of others have been signed, but struggled.
It has become a bit of a running joke that Leeds are unable to solve the left-back conundrum. Max Aarons is due to come in from Norwich in a £12m deal – and he can play left-back, but is a right-back. Joe Rodon is also set to sign.
Leeds need Taylor and it is hardly going to stretch our finances given his age, his bit-part role at Burnley and his contract situation. But, until Burnley bring in a replacement – it is out of our hands. Hopefully, Burnley help us out.
