Leeds United are debating whether to make an offer for Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor.
That is according to Phil Hay of the Athletic, who reports Leeds are ‘pondering’ a bid for the 28-year-old, with Ryan Manning also having been linked as an option for that position.
Leeds are in desperate need of at least one new left-back this summer with Junior Firpo expected to depart following the club’s relegation.
Pascal Struijk and Leo Hjelde are also options there, though the future of both remains uncertain with the latter having been linked with a move to Salernitana.
That said, both are far more comfortable playing as a left-sided centre-back, even if Hjelde did impress at full-back while on loan at Rotherham United last season.
Leeds considering bid for Taylor
Taylor made 33 Championship appearances for Burnley last season as they romped to the title with 101 points, though only 17 of those came from the start, with many coming in central defence.
The 29-year-old has just a year left to run on his deal at Turf Moor and given his drop in game time under Vincent Kompany, could well be available for a decent price this summer.
Taylor did, of course, progress through the ranks of Leeds’ academy before going onto make 104 appearances for the Whites, scoring three goals and providing 13 assists.
One potential stumbling block to the move was the way he left on a free transfer to Burnley back in 2017, with Garry Monk claiming he refused to play in a final day away match at Wigan Athletic.
There is no doubting his quality as a reliable, attacking left-back at this level, though, and he would certainly solve a position that has long been a problem for Leeds.
