Tyler Adams has told Thursday’s US press conference that Victor Orta convinced him over a move to Leeds United, armed with a 30-page powerpoint presentation – claiming that the Leeds sporting director caught him “off guard”.
Adams, 23, has been a revelation since he came to Leeds. Fans were concerned when the club sold Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City. But the addition of Adams has added that defensive steel Leeds lost with the sale of Phillips.
Alongside Marc Roca, the midfielder has formed an excellent partnership – with Roca more focused on transitioning the Leeds side from defence to attack. Adams is more of a combative, hard-working, nasty player in the middle.
Speaking ahead of the start of the World Cup and USA’s opener against Wales on Monday, the ex-Leipzig midfielder shared how Orta got him to join Leeds. He says the research, including a massive powerpoint, did the job.
“My agent made contact with Orta at Leeds,” Adams said in Thursday’s press conference, as per the US Soccer website. “He was the one that caught me off-guard in terms of how much they knew about me.
“The research that they do, given me a 30-page powerpoint presentation of how I can thrive in the Premier League, is why he gave me a lot of feedback in my game – but how I could have an instant impact in England.”
Adams: Orta convinced him over Leeds move with 30-page presentation
Orta does get his fair share of criticism. Of course, his outburst recently in which he referenced some Leeds fans saying sack the board, is not a good look. It deserved the apology in which Orta issued via a statement.
But Orta deserves praise, too. Alongside Andrea Radrizzani and Angus Kinnear, they have helped take Leeds from Championship to Premier League. It was Orta’s appointment of Marcelo Bielsa. Their decision to sack him, too.
They brought in Jesse Marsch and he kept us up – when under Bielsa, it looked likely we would go down. His work, his attention to detail, is immense. Adams also states that Orta will be travelling to Qatar to watch the World Cup.
