The adulation continues to grow for Georginio Rutter and Joel Piroe as they score the goals that takes Leeds United towards the top of the Championship – but spare a moment for fellow striker Joe Gelhardt.
Rutter and Piroe are both inside the Championship’s top 10 players this season, as per WhoScored. The duo are forming a wonderful partnership in the final third, scoring a combined six goals so far this term.
There is no doubt that the duo will start against Southampton on Saturday. Meanwhile, Patrick Bamford is expected to be available for selection come Saturday, recovering from injury and is back in training.

Mateo Joseph, too. The England U21 man was liked by Daniel Farke during pre-season, and he is more than capable of playing out wide – offering versatility. Gelhardt’s game time is already, incredibly limited.
While he has started both Carabao Cup games, Gelhardt only started two of our eight league games in August. Just six Championship minutes have come his way since August 18. Surely, a loan was needed.
Gelhardt must be ruing Leeds decision to rebuff numerous moves
TeamTalk reported towards the end of the summer window that Leeds had rebuffed numerous moves to sign Gelhardt. An unused sub in our last two league games. Micah Richards likened him to Lionel Messi.

Surely, it would have been beneficial for Joffy, to have been sent on loan – after spending the second half of last term with Sunderland. A Championship club, crucial game time. Sam Greenwood has done.
Instead, he is going to warm the bench for the next few months and with Bamford and Joseph back in the fold – Gelhardt may struggle to even do that. He needs a few injuries to go his way to get in the side.
