Leeds set to make massive mistake amid Cody Drameh exit reports

If Leeds United fans were asked which right-back they would want to sell this summer, it is hard to imagine too many would opt for Cody Drameh.

Right-back has been a problem for the Whites for a little while now. Luke Ayling has struggled with injury and form since the start of last season. And Rasmus Kristensen is yet to show much which suggests that he is going to be Ayling’s long-term successor at Elland Road.

Cody Drameh however, has been impressing once again out on loan. The 21-year-old is doing well as part of the Luton Town side who look nailed on for a play-off spot, if not more.

Drameh looking set to leave Leeds this summer

It comes after a similarly superb spell with Cardiff last year. Despite arriving midway through the season, Drameh went on to win the Young Player and Player of the Season awards before his return to Leeds.

So it seems to be an obvious decision for the Whites as they look at who should be the long-term answer at right-back from next season.

The problem is that Drameh looks set to be someone else’s player by the time next season arrives.

Reports this week claimed that Drameh’s exit before the start of pre-season is almost inevitable. His contract has one year left to run. So Leeds may only have one final opportunity to cash in before losing him for free in a year.

You can definitely understand Drameh’s stance. He has had two superb loan spells in the Championship. And yet, he seems to be no closer to getting his chance at Elland Road.

And it is not as though the two players ahead of him in the pecking order have been so much better. In fact, had Leeds not spent so much on Kristensen in the summer, there is surely no way that Drameh would have had such a small number of chances.

Drameh will not be the finished article just yet. But he is doing all he can to prove himself. And it is clear that he has a lot of potential.

If he was battling for a place out wide further up the pitch, you could understand why he would struggle for chances.

But right-back is a real weakness for Leeds right now. So selling Drameh is the summer would have the potential to be a massive mistake.

Unfortunately, that now appears to be more than a real possibility based on reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post this week.
