Spanish outlet AS claim Rodrigo has decided to leave Leeds United and join Qatari side Al-Rayyan after receiving an offer “he could not refuse” – with Victor Orta’s Sevilla failing to reach the striker’s financial demands to sign him.
Rodrigo, 32, finished his third season at Elland Road having produced his best body of work since joining. But, it comes in a season that sees Leeds relegated – scoring 15 goals in 35 games. Little surprise, that clubs are keen.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday that the ex-Valencia star, who was our club-record signing before the arrival of Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim in January, was undergoing a medical at Leonardo Jardim’s Al-Rayyan.

Romano said a deal could be completed by Wednesday and now, it is expected a move will be announced by the close of play on Thursday. AS state that after talks with Sevilla, he has refused an offer he could not turn down.
Rodrigo leaves Leeds after offer ‘he could not refuse’ from Al-Rayyan
It is a bit of a surprise move, to join Al-Rayyan. Following his wonderful season at Leeds, on a personal level, the striker actually won his place back in Spain’s squad. With Euro 2024 next summer, he had a chance of making it.

But a move to the Middle East with Al-Rayyan surely ends any chance of keeping his place in Spain’s National Team. Perhaps, he has had a chat with the management at Spain. But on the face of it, a place in Spain’s side is unlikely.
It is another exit from the club. Tyler Roberts, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Brenden Aaronson have gone. Next up is expected to be Marc Roca, Rasmus Kristensen and now Rodrigo. Leeds are yet to make any new signings.
