Leeds player should have accepted move, 49ers were open to his exit with £5million bid on table

Darko Gyabi was the subject of reported interest on deadline day from Fleetwood Town and French side Valenciennes – and in hindsight, perhaps the Leeds United midfielder should have accepted a move.

Gyabi, 19, has managed just two substitute outings this season. He has remained an unused sub in the other five games. That was even before Leeds struck deals for both Ilia Gruev, and then Glen Kamara.

Gruev was not available for the 0-0 draw against Sheffield Wednesday due to the club awaiting to be allowed to use him – applying for a Visa. Kamara came on in the final few minutes – but is lacking fitness.

Gyabi – even without Gruev involved – remained an unused sub. Ethan Ampadu and Archie Gray are the starting options, with Gruev and Kamara competing. Jamie Shackleton has been preferred this term.

Not only that, but Stuart Dallas is expected to make some sort of return before Christmas. So, Gyabi is at least fifth choice in the middle of the park – and perhaps, also behind Shackleton and injured Dallas.

Gyabi should have accepted move away from Leeds, amid offers

Phil Hay reported on The Athletic that Valenciennes made a £5m bid, after a £4m offer was rejected. Fleetwood, managed by Celtic legend Scott Brown, tried to sign the England U20 midfielder on loan.

So, with Gyabi’s game time severely reduced and there being little chance of game time with Leeds now knocked out of the Carabao Cup – surely, Gyabi should have left Leeds. He could become an outcast.

Fleetwood would have seen him remain on the books – but a full season as first choice in League One. Valenciennes might have given him the platform to break into France’s top tier, at least, with promotion.
