Left back continues to be an area of concern for Leeds United heading into the new season.
In Junior Firpo, the Whites currently have only one recognised option across both the first team and U21s for that role, and he could well move on before the opening day clash with Cardiff City.
Firpo was seen as the man to fix Leeds’ left-back conundrum two years ago but has struggled for form and fitness since his move from Barcelona, and as such, is expected to move on.
Leo Hjelde proved on loan at Rotherham United and in the recent friendly against Manchester United he can be a good option there, but his best position remains in central defence.
Leeds had earmarked free agent Ryan Manning as a potential target but were beaten to the punch by Southampton, while a return for Charlie Taylor has also been mentioned.
Luton and Boro plot Giles bids, he’d be ideal for Leeds
However, one man who would be ideal for Daniel Farke is Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ryan Giles, who starred on loan at Middlesbrough last season.
According to the Daily Mail, his former loan club, as well as Luton Town, are said to be readying £5 million moves for Giles, who was described as ‘tremendous’ by Wolves’ player marketing manager Matt Jackson upon returning to his parent club.
Giles was one of the best in his position last season in the Championship having provided 11 assists from 45 league matches, bettering that of the previously linked Manning.
As was evident at Norwich City with Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis, Farke likes his full-backs to get forward at any available opportunity and that is clearly something Giles thrives upon.
The 23-year-old has now had eight loan spells away from Wolves in his career and so after such a good season at Boro last term, this summer feels like make or break for him at Molineux.
If Wolves are once again happy to move him on, then Leeds should be all over it.
