Leeds United may complete a move to sign Sam Byram this week according to Daniel Farke, who told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he struggles to find many arguments against a move for the free agent after a win over Hearts.
Byram, 29, has returned to Leeds this summer – only on trial. It was believed he was initially, only training with Leeds to regain fitness. But, the defender – who played under Farke at Norwich – has featured in three summer friendlies.
A sub against Monaco and Hearts, he even started in the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Burton’s Pirelli Stadium. He has come through pre-season unscathed, no new injury. That is despite playing just 98 times since leaving us.
His exit to West Ham came way back in January 2016. So, less than 100 matches in seven and a half years. Byram needs a new start and that career kickstart could come in the form of his boyhood club. Farke gave a new update.
“We will see, we will assess. We have not discussed so far but we know what we’ve got. Sam is a great lad, great attitude, experienced, homegrown player, free agent. I don’t find many, many arguments against him,” Farke said.
“We’ll have a closer look at this. It’s not a big topic and not a big issue. But we’re all happy that he’s gone through pre-season without any injuries. We need to listen to what he thinks. I will come to a conclusion over the next week.”

Byram would be a smart signing. He knows he is not going to start, and the chances are that Leeds wave goodbye to Junior Firpo – and bring in a new left-back. Leo Hjelde has been linked with the exit door, though. Cover needed.
What has surprised, and impressed many is that his performances at left-back have looked as though he is on his natural side. Completely at ease. He offers versatility, is homegrown, knows the club. Right now, it’s a no-brainer.
