Han-Noah Massengo was a surprise name to be linked with a move to Leeds United in the summer, after leaving Bristol City on a free transfer – but the Frenchman joined Burley instead, where he is struggling.
The midfielder was a surprise signing at Bristol City in the first place. The Robins decided to pay £7m to sign Massengo, still a teenager, from French side Monaco. It was seen as a bit of a coup at Ashton Gate.
He went on to play 110 times for Bristol City, before leaving the club on loan in January to join Auxerre. Massengo then left Bristol City on a free transfer. But he did not find a new home till late in the window.
Phil Hay reported on The Athletic that Leeds were interested in Massengo – but nothing materialised. Of course, Leeds would have had to pay a compensation fee to Bristol City, as he is younger than 23.
But eventually, Leeds chose to sign Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara in midfield – while Archie Gray has made his breakthrough into the side. Massengo finally found his new club on August 31.

He joined Vincent Kompany’s newly-promoted Burnley. But, it has been a real struggle for Massengo so far. Indeed, he has failed to make the matchday squad for the Premier League even on one occasion.
His only outing for Burnley has come in the Carabao Cup, coming off the bench for 24 minutes in a 4-0 win over Salford – the side that knocked us out on penalties. He is really struggling for game time.
It is a long season and there will be injuries, suspensions and other reasons that players drop out of Kompany’s side. But, for Massengo, it has not been a good start, it might be he needs a January loan.
