Mark Jackson watched his Leeds United Under-23 side suffer a 4-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur’s second string on Monday at Thorp Arch. It was an enthralling Premier League 2 tie, in which both sides looked to attack. But Leeds fans were surprised at how Jack Clarke struggled for Tottenham.
Clarke, now 20, broke into the Leeds side during Marcelo Bielsa’s first season as manager. With injuries aplenty, England Under-20 star Clarke was given his chance in the senior side and he grabbed it. During 2018-19, he played 25 times at senior level for at Leeds – scoring two and creating two.
He joined Tottenham for £10million two years ago and returned to Leeds, but struggled for game time. Subsequent loans to QPR and Stoke have seen him stutter – since clocking up four first-team outings for Spurs. But he is struggling to prove the hefty transfer fee Spurs paid in 2019.
What are Leeds fans saying about Tottenham man Clarke?
He started against his old side, returning to Thorp Arch to take on Leeds. But it was his teammate Dilan Markanday that stole the show, scoring a hat-trick as Spurs won 4-2. Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt notched for Leeds, while Nile John got a fourth for Spurs.
Leeds fans discussed Clarke and his performance for Tottenham. Many believe Leeds have done well to get £10million for him – questioning his decision to join Spurs.
