Leeds United could reportedly table another offer to sign Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley on deadline day – a year after he was linked with a £20m move to the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

O’Riley, 22, has starred for Celtic since Ange Postecoglou signed him from MK Dons in January 2022. In that time, he has clocked up 76 outings for champions Celtic – having a hand in 27 goals from midfield.

Little surprise then, that English clubs are showing interest in O’Riley. Sky Sports reported on Thursday that Leeds had seen a £10m bid rejected for the Denmark U21 star. Celtic are desperate to keep him.

But, it is not over as we enter deadline day. Transfer expert Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that we could return with another bid. A player that some of the Premier League’s best have been linked with.

Indeed, last summer, ESPN reported that Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool were keeping tabs on the London-born player. The report said O’Riley would cost a fee of £15m-£20m, for Celtic to sell.

Clearly, he is a player with supreme quality and already, has turned his massive potential into goals and assists from deep. He would be a stunning signing if Leeds could get him over the line. It looks unlikely.

Celtic boast Champions League football, the chances to win trophies. Leeds are not guaranteed to go up and given the quality and potential of O’Riley, he will only want to leave for a Premier League club.

Even if Leeds got a bid accepted – if that’s £15m or more, then we would still have some job to convince O’Riley to swap Celtic for Leeds. But there is no doubting he would be an unbelievable signing now.
