Leeds United could sign Manchester City defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis on loan this summer.

That is according to Leeds Live, who report the prospect of another loan is ‘realistic’ for Harwood-Bellis if City refuse to lower their £15 million asking price, which no club has so far chosen to meet.

It is said Leeds could also look to incorporate some sort of obligation to buy in the deal, though that would require Harwood-Bellis signing some sort of extension at City with his contract expiring next summer.

As per the report, Leeds have made ‘tentative enquiries’ with the player’s agent as he features highly on a list of targets at centre back this summer, which is Daniel Farke’s next priority.

Leeds are set to face Premier League interest in the race for Harwood-Bellis, with West Ham United and Everton among those keen on the 21-year-old.

However, West Ham have recently hit an impasse in their pursuit, while Everton are yet to firm up their initial interest as they focus on strengthening their attack first.

Harwood-Bellis has already proven he is more than good enough at this level having played 32 matches in Burnley’s Championship title winning campaign last season.

While he may now want to test himself in the Premier League, if he cannot secure a move there Leeds could be the next best step, with his quality on the ball perfect for Farke’s style of play.

A loan with an obligation to buy upon promotion would be the ideal situation for Leeds, as it would only force them to commit to a £15 million purchase if they get back to the Premier League.

It would also help free up cash for other positions that need strengthening, including left-back, centre midfield and striker.
