Leeds close to signing player that Bayern Munich tried to get for £35m two years ago

Leeds United are reportedly closing in on a move to sign Max Aarons from Norwich City in a deal that could reach a fee of £12m – but it could have been very different for the right-back, as Bayern pursued his signing back in 2021.

Still only 23, it feels as if Aarons has been around for a whole lot longer. Making his debut for Norwich under Daniel Farke in August 2018, as an 18-year-old, Aarons has gone on to play a huge 213 times for the Championship side.

The right-back has been regularly linked with a move away from Norwich but nothing has materialised. Norwich priced clubs out of a move a few years ago, with Sky Sports reporting they wanted a fee between £30m and £35m.

The report claims that Bayern were keen on raiding Norwich to take him to Germany. But Aarons has remained in East Anglia, where he has entered the final year of his deal. Norwich will want to sell him in order to bring in a fee.

According to Pink Un, Leeds are closing in on a move to sign Aarons. The Whites are advanced in talks to complete the signing of Aarons, with a fee likely to reach £12m with add-ons. A bargain, compared to his 2021 price tag.

Another interesting part to the deal is that of Stuart Webber as Norwich’s sporting director, who of course has been linked with a move to Leeds – and is a Leeds fan. It sees Aarons reunite with the man who gave him his debut.

Leeds are well-stocked on the right side of defence, with Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh the current options. It has seen Rasmus Kristensen go out on loan to Roma. So, Aarons arrival might see movement, either Ayling or Drameh.
