Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph reports that Leeds United target Matt O’Riley is set to enter new contract talks with Celtic during the international break – after the Whites reportedly tabled a £10m bid.
O’Riley, 22, has been on fire for Celtic since the Denmark U21 star joined the Scottish champions in January 2022 under Ange Postecoglou. He has since played 77 times, having a hand in 28 Celtic goals.
The last of which, came on Sunday. It was his perfectly-weighted header that set Kyogo Furuhashi in on goal – and he finished past Jack Butland. A serious talent – no surprises, Leeds made a summer bid.
Joseph confirms what was reported in the summer window, in that Leeds table a £10m bid. A fee which would have seen Celtic clock up an instant profit of £8.5m. But, Celtic rebuffed the offer from Leeds.
Indeed, O’Riley has been linked with bigger clubs for bigger money. ESPN reported in the summer of 2022, that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United had all considered O’Riley for as much as £20m.

Now, Joseph has delivered an update on the future of O’Riley. Given Leeds made a bid for the playmaker towards the end of the summer window, and did not sign a no.10, you would expect our interest remains.
But, it looks as if Celtic could end any chance of that. That is, if reports are true, because Celtic are set to open talks with O’Riley and his camp over a new deal. Joseph says, a bigger wage and a longer term.
